Ernie Els's 'Doos'

Isn’t it funny? Sometimes one can use a certain word or expression and no-one would care. But, when a celeb uses the same word it becomes an issue. And, even worse, when a celeb uses that word in public or on camera then I becomes a major event. Well, some time ago Ernie Else, the big easy of golf found out that he was not excluded from this experience. Whilst playing in a tournament in Dubai he hit a bad shot and responded “Ah, you pulled it ‘jou doos’”. Nothing untoward?. No that easy Ernie. The words ‘jou doos’ is in fact is part of his native language, Afrikaans and when translated it means ‘You Virgina’ (don’t want to use the correct translation as the word would actually start with a ‘c…’).

Many Afrikaner men use the same term when making a fool of them. In this case, it was captured on camera and transmitted world-wide.
